1940 LaSalle Series 52 Convertible Coupe
This is one of the 425 Series 5296 Cadillac-LaSalle automobiles built in 1940, the last year of LaSalle production. The car was originally equipped with an L-head 322 c.i. V-8 that produced only 130 horsepower, due to its low compression ratio of 6.25:1. The car was purchased in 1999 with what appeared to be a quality restoration of body and paint, and after a summer of driving, the owner put it under a cover for winter storage. Upon uncovering it for spring, he found that removing the car cover also removed the most of the paint, and that he had been victim of the "mop and glo " approach to restoration. We performed a complete frame-on body restoration that required us to hand fabricate the rear quarters and all fender attachment points to to the extensive rust that had been hidden under the paint. Once the body was complete, the car was treated to a two stage base/clear 1992 Cadillac Black Cherry finish, with a tan interior in high quality vinyl indistiguishable from leather. |
