1973 Dodge Challenger Hemi |
Fresh from California, we are going to take this 1973 Challenger and make it look like a 1970 Challenger Hemi with some improvements. A long list of modifications from the owner include a Dana 60, 4 speed manual and 650 Horsepower into the 1969 Hemi motor now currently residing under the hood. The Top Banana yellow exterior looks really good and the interior has some interesting use of color throughout.
 | Upon arrival, we test drove this car in order to properly evaluate it. The Hemi was down on power, the 727 Torqueflite transmission is slipping, the wiring harness shows evidence of prior fire damage, the American Racing Torque Thrust TTO wheels are awesome and the 70's disco interior is very loud. The suspension is shot also. | | Here is the mighty 1969 Hemi motor freshly plucked. | | UH-OH! Folks, this is a first for us. Even after all the other vehicles we have seen slapped together and otherwise mop n glo'd together, this one takes the cake. This is a perfect impression of a piston making a very quick exit through the block. Someone decided to test the limits of JB Weld and patched it all back together. Well, it isn't pretty but it did work. However, it is not the best for longevity nor for stuffing 650 HP into. Just when we thought we had seen it all! | | Now for the other side of the block. An oil dipstick hole has been hacked into the block and then siliconed it closed. Another hole was drilled and a dipstick was glued in. | | Now it gets worse. Cases of bondo have been poured and artfully sculpted into just about every panel on this car. I believe Michaelangelo's offspring did this car. | | A close up of the Grand Canyon of bondo | | Another valley and trail in the bondo. | | More bondo poured into the door and fender. Where does it end? | | The impossible to find 70 tail lamp panel is now available in reproduction. | | Hemi specific gauges have been restored to perfection | | This is a NOS service replacement speedometer. Very rare and unusual as the tenths are in red | | 8000 RPM Hemi tachometer | | Full gauges | | Quartz converted clock | | Front disassembly has begun | | Rotisserie is being readied to put the Challenger on the swing. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
