1972 Citroen SM with a Maserati V6 Print E-mail
We have a French visitor. It was rear ended on the Long Island Expressway in NY. These cars have a lot of unique characteristics.
Here is the front view of this unusual car.
The engine compartment has a Maserati V6 in it. The transmission is mounted forward of it to drive the front wheels. All the accessories are also mounted about 2 feet in front of the motor and is driven off the motor by a shaft. Pretty unusual.
  Nice interior, it's really comfortable.
The rear bumper and lights have been removed.
Removing the bumper reveals the floor and frame have extensive damage.
  Another view of the rear.
Repaired all the damages and primes the repaired areas
Front license pocket was looking old so we removed the glass and started prepping for paint.
Right quarter and rear body panel is painted
Wet sanded and polished the quarter panel
  Front license pocket is painted
We are polishing the entire car now

Seats have been recovered utilizing NOS material
Other seat redone with NOS material
While going through a mechanical check, we discovered there was not any coolant in the cooling system. We pressurized the system and found the water pump weep hole to be leaking. Being that the motor is in backwards, that means the water pump is up against the firewall. Not an easy job.
This is the coolant leaking down under 5 PSI of pressure.
Here is the oil pan showing the coolant dripping down from the water pump.
Here is the Citroen on the lift investigating a coolant leak. Of course, the water pump is leaking and it is up against the firewall.
Removing the air cleaner reveals a 6 pack for a 6 banger!
Here is where the water pump is. Lots of room! NOT!
The cracked dash is being removed to make way for a new one and we are also installing a new stereo system.
Incredibly crowded dash once the dash has been dismantled.
The stereo system has been installed here since there is virtually no real estate available inside.
New replacement dash has been installed
These are the plastic panels that hold the trim on the underside of the hatch. They came out in pieces so we had to epoxy them back together
  Additional pieces under the hatch.
  Rear assembly begins
  Here the rear is assembled.
NOS carpet from France along with NOS seat leather freshen the interior dramatically.
Another shot of the interior with new carpet, front seat leather and dash.
