1979 Pontiac Trans Am Macho T\A W72 |
This is a nicely loaded and extremely rare Macho Trans Am as modified by the Mecham Brothers out of Mecham Pontiac in Phoenix, AZ. Purchased by Melvin, this car will be restored as time allows. These cars are what the Baldwin Motion, Nickeys and Yenko's were in the 60's. They are the future hot collectibles.
 | Despite how the car looks in the pictures, it is in remarkably good condition. Obviously, the front bumper cover has been replaced sometime in it's past life. | | It also is very complete and original | | The original numbers matching W72 400 Pontiac engine still resides in the engine compartment complete with all the Mecham mods. | | Left rear view. | | Right rear view. | | #39 out of an estimated 212 modified by the Mecham brothers. The story is that the selling dealer would send the vehicle to Mecham and also sell it to Mecham Pontiac who would then sell it back to the original dealer as a "used" car to get around all the emission issues. | | Non original dual catalytic converters were installed in place of the single "monolithic" converter. Exhaust pipe size is surprisingly small. | | Hood detail | | One of the parts of the package was to cut open the scoop and install the screens. Very nice job done! | | Another angle of the hood detail | | Also part of the package was to mount the battery in the trunk. The original hold downs are still there. The battery cables are still lurking in the trunk floor holes. | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
