1966 Chevrolet Nova L79 4 speed wagon Print E-mail
While not new to Classic, we had started on this car awhile back and have recently started back on it and we are going to get her finished. A special ordered wagon with the original owner (still) that was purchased as the first car when married and has served the owner well. This wagon was special ordered with few options and bucket seats but Chevrolet would not let bucket seats come with the wagon. The owner had the dealer swap the seats out of a SS when it arrived. Heavily rusted and requiring an enormous amount of fabrication since there is very little aftermarket support for wagons, we have the car ready for paint and assembly. A lot of the photos were taken with film and we pick up with the digital camera on this site. Very low production car with the L79 327 CID/350 HP Corvette motor from the factory! How many were built? Very hard to find out but I would guess single digits!
Interior floor in primer. We largely reconstructed this floor without any reproduction parts as they are not available.
After all the metal working consisting of floor, quarter door and tail gate fabrication, the original colors have been shot inside and in the jambs
Ready for its reuniting of body and drivetrain
  Motor getting assembled
Accessories being installed onto the motor
Motor is back in its original shell

  New gas tank
Heater core box cleaned and painted
  Shifter installed
  Rear brakes being assembled
  Inside door view
Right side door jambs edged in color
This is the inner tailgate frame. It was so badly rusted, we had to patch most of it. Chevrolet, in their infinite wisdom, changed the tailgate every year. It was impossible to find a tailgate specifically for a 1966 that was not rotted or heavily damaged so we ended up reconstructing it.
Outer tailgate panel being rebuilt off the shell frame
Here is the inner tailgate prior to being rehoined with the outer panel and shell
All back together. Probably the world's most expensive 66 Nova tailgate!
Floor and dash finished out in factory color along with the outer jambs in the factory Danube Blue Metallic.
Front fenders ready for some small body work after metal working them
Doors were painted their respective colors for the inside and edges
  New dash harness being installed
Custom made carpet with vinyl bindings around the shifter.
Close up of the SS seats after blasting the frames and painting them.
Additional view of the carpet, the special bindings around the shifter and the front seats.
Back seat was a nightmare to make. We had to order a 4 door seat and then reconstruct it to fit te smaller wagon seat.
Custom headliner for the wagon. A lot of the bows were rotted and had to be hand made.
Wheel house covers had to be custom fabricated also.
  Engine compartment almost finished.
  Firewall assembled
  Undercarriage assembled
Top view of engine compartment without the hood on.
  Hood installed
Blocking of the body to make sure it is arrow straight.
The body was epoxy primed and then sealed
  Back view in primer sealant
  Freshly painted in the booth
Hood freshly painted in the booth also.
Another view of the freshly painted left side.
  Right side view
  Tailgate looks perfect!
Right front fender is arrow straight
Right front door also is gorgeous!
  Roof view

  Kick panels are painted.
Rear bumper filler has been painted and installed.
New windshield and gasket has been installed
