This LeMans convertible comes to us with the intent of upgrading the performance, handling and braking.
Here is the LeMans coming apart. The front sheetmetal has been removed.
Rear view of what we are starting with.
Interior has bucket seats, column shift automatic, air conditioning and power windows.
Here is the body as it has been separated from the chassis.
The body cart is in place to lower the body onto it. Chassis disassembly continues in the background.
Here is a view of the chassis from the rear.
Floors and underside have an extreme amount of undercoating.
Upon removal of the power steering box, we found the frame to be rotted on the side and bottom portions of the chassis.
Here is the body on the cart.
Another view of the body on the cart.
We have removed the trunk lid and started to strip the underside.
The exterior trim has been removed.
After stripping the exterior of the lid, we have started the body work to it.
Clean up of the mile thick undercoating continues
A rust hole is found in the left wheelhouse
We also found this patch in the left wheelhouse under the thick undercoating
After much metal work, we follow up with some of the straightening body work to the left door.
Clean up under the trunk floor continues
The right door is primed and temporarily installed
Once the quarters were stripped, we found this horrible installation
The opposite side mirrored the other but the top is also weak
After metalworking the welded areas, body work has started
  Trunk floor is being stripped
Cowl and hinge pillars being stripped
Metalwork on the other quarter followed by body work also
Once we started cleaning up the cowl, we discovered some rust issues. We removed the windshield and found a whole host of issues.
We also found the header to have rust issues also.
Upon removing the carpet, we found the panel to be very rusty under the rear seat.
Same thing on the drivers side under the rear seat.
Even the passenger side front floor could not escape the deadly tin worm.
Body work is completed to the shell. Now it has been primed and is ready for blocking
  Floors were completed and painted
Orbit Orange has been applied to the floors and openings
  Other side view
Trunk opening is also given a liberal dose of Orbit Orange
The blasted, primed and powdercoated chassis is ready for assembly.
The suspension and brake parts are being readied for assembly
12 bolt rear axle is being readied for installation
Baer 13" rear brakes are being installed
Global West suspension is installed along with the stainless lines.
  QA-1 adjustable rear shocks installed.
Global West control arms and QA-1 coil overs are installed
Stainless lines being modified for the Baer brakes
Orbit Orange body is finally remarried to the fully restified chassis
Another view of the body on chassis
Rear view of body and chassis
Dash and gauges have been removed
Motor and transmission being installed and fitment is being checked.
Floor required trimming to allow the very large Tremec 6 speed transmission to fit. This is typical of the GTO's to need this kind of surgery for these transmissions.
  Assembly continues of engine compartment
Transmission tunnel has been fabricated and is now being fitted.
Tunnel has been welded into the floor.
Grinding of the welds will yield a nice smooth finish
Right side of the engine compartment
Assembly of a very rare option called Insta Aire. This allows engine vacuum to be accessed as a tire pump via a plug in container. We are adding this NOS assembly
We tapped a new port into the intake manifold and added the rest of the system to the bracket.
New GTO front fenders have been edged in Orbit Orange
New radiator support is test fitted.
  Vacuum canister is installed
