1979 Pontiac Trans Am Special Edition Y84 WS6 W72 |
Here is an unrestored Black Special Edition Trans Am aka Y84 aka Smokey and the Bandit. This example is 1 of 1107 produced with the 4 speed manual transmission. This particular example has been documented as the 2nd to last W72 Special Edition produced. The last W72 Special Edition was produced just a short time after this one on the same build day making this car a very important and valuable car. We are given the task of cleaning up the original underside of this unmolested vehicle.
 | Here is the beautiful Y84 Special Edition Trans Am | | Original interior in the hobnail and lombardy cloth. The black on black combination is rare | | Dash view. The steering wheel and dash bezel were gold on the SE | | Rear view | | Another view | | Now for the underside. While the topside is in beautiful condition, the underside shows it's age | | Original floors but tired | | The underside disassembly begins. No, that is not Ted Kazinski | | Axle and exhaust look really tired | | Floors are solid and original. And they look it! | | How is that for a difference? 2 weeks of hard scraping and cleanup give this result | | Another view of the underside as it gets cleaned up and new stainless lines are installed | | Rear axle looks better than it ever has in it's basic black | | Front wheel houses are cleaned up | | Rear wheel houses look great. New Bilstein shocks will ensure the ride is smooth | | New rear springs, hardware and bushings are installed | | Sway bar is installed, new fuel tank also | | New stainless exhaust system from Pypes is installed and fitted | | Here is the stainless system installed | | Stainless exhaust splitters complete the system | | On the ground, this underside looks as good as the top side! | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
