| The master cylinder and proportioning valve have now been plumbed with stainless steel lines
|
| New front to rear stainless brake line has also been run and routed.
|
The new fuel tank has been installed after cleaning up the bottom of the trunk floor. We then primed and lightly undercoated the floor to preserve it.
We are closing off the firewall in preparation of the installation of Vintage Air.
Vintage Air evaporator unit installed under the dash
Remote door poppers installed
The owner decided he wanted the factory a/c vents. The factory bezels and vents are available. However, the plastic coupler that the vent rides in and the a/c ducting hooks up to is not available. We had to make these out of 2 separate pieces. It required about 8 hours on a lathe to construct these parts
The a/c pusher fan is installed and is wired to a trinary switch so the fan comes on when the a/c is switched on.
The a/c compressor is installed after modifying the Vintage Air compressor bracket. Hoses also were fabricated.
Trunk has been prepped and freshly sprayed with a ceramic sound deadener product called LizardSkin. We have had great success with this product. It accomplishes the same and better results as DynaMat but weighs substantially less. It also is not flammable.
Rear seat area sprayed. This reaches places where normal sound deadener cannot since it is sprayed on.
Passenger compartment floor. These pictures were taken while the Lizard Skin was still wet so there is varying shades now. Once it dries, it will be uniform.
Now that all the mechanical issues have been dealt with and the Lizard Skin Ceramic Insulator has dried, we are now ready to paint. We will tape the car, cover the wheels and spray the 2001 Corvette Torch Red base coat / clear coat paint.
Here is the Torch Red paint job freshly sprayed in the booth
Another view of the beautiful Torch Red Corvette color
The restoration and calibration of the gauges has been completed. New silk screening of the faces brings out the vibrant colors of the Rallye dash.
The 5 step wet sanding has been completed and now the 3 step polishing has begun. Nice and straight!
As the polishing continues, the paint gets deeper and the arrow straight body becomes apparent.
Here is a shot of the trunk lid. The reflections are really deep on this.
The parchment seats have been repadded and recovered. However, we are, most likely, going to do the interior with 2006 GTO seats as we did in the 67 GTO you'll find in our past projects section.
The power window and remote release relays have been mounted on a panel and will be relocated out of sight. We are now figuring out the best way to route wiring efficiently.
We are beginning to mock up the custom center console. This is a separate fuse block we are locating below the new center console armrest area for all the additional electronics. The power window switches are also being mocked up to figure the best placement in the console.
Wiring continues. This is not as bad as it looks. This is to get the layout figured out and then it will get neatened up.
The center console is starting to be mocked up. This is important to get the layout of the accessories and controls not to mention the routing of the wiring.
Layout of the console with the CD changer along with the 06 GTO seat fitment continues
Further development of console and arrangement continues
Fitment continues. These consoles are not easy when you take into consideration everything that needs to be included.
The steel structure of the console is finished. Covering will begin shortly
The 2006 GTO rear seats have been fitted to the 65's rear passenger compartment area.
Gauge layout on the dash has begun utilizing the factory vacuum gauge and 2 aftermarket gauges
Console finishing in process
A/C ducting and vents await their installation
Auxilary gauges being mounted on a panel to be installed in the dash leading to the console.
Now that the stereo system and other electronics are squared away, we are getting the dash ready for paint. The Eclipse stereo system was like wiring the space shuttle with all the components figured in.
This wiring is just for the DCU 5.1 processor alone!
2006 GTO seats have been redone in the original Parchment color.
Eclipse door speakers are being installed.
Front bumpers and trim are installed
Rear assembly has begun
Rear speakers and package shelf are installed
Side glass is installed and aligned on both sides.
We have installed a battery switch so the customer can run the high powered stereo system on the 2nd battery and not worry about draining the main battery. We have also wired it to recharge off of the alternator once the engine is started. We'll have to upgrade the charging system!
We made the side amplifier panel hinge so the customer can access the switch
From the outside you cannot tell this is a hinged access door.
The 2006 GTO rear seats have been fitted and reupholstered and are being installed.
Another view of the rear GTO seats
The trunk is starting to take shape.
We have installed real wood throughout.
Close up of auxilary gauges and Vintage A/C panel.
Shift console with cupholder and power window switches.
Passenger side with the wood. The customer requested us to remove the grab handle and GTO lucite emblem for a cleaner look.
Tri-power carburetors were replaced. A reproduction ram air pan, new lids and hood seal have all been done to make sure the engine runs better. The stock 37 amp alternator has been rebuilt and upgraded to 98 amps to better be able to handle the incredible amount of electronics this old goat has. We also changed to a higher flow water pump and to a waterless coolant to help make the cooling system much more efficient.
Here is the finished product. Right front view.
Rear view
Side view, nice stance.
Engine compartment
Custom trunk
Custom door panel with speaker components
Custom dash and console with billet A/C vents. Eclipse stereo with navigation.
Interior from driver side.
Passenger side view of interior.
Front seats look great.
Headliner and sunvisors work well.
Custom trimmed steering wheel ties interior together.
Custom fitted rear seats
