Page 1 of 6 This '67 Marina Blue Corvette is pictured as we received it at our facility with numerous bugs to work out.
Attention to detail is what makes or breaks a first class restoration. | After the owner spent $100, 000 at a "specialty" shop in Long Island restoring this car, it was delivered with a nasty vibration in the driveline, multiple floor cracks, a propensity to lock the steering wheel to the left and not release and loose half shafts. They did not want to know who he was afterwards. Nice, right? | Once we narrowed down the location of the vibration, the M21 transmission was removed and the side cover removed. The gear teeth were sharp and worn, the reverse idler was dragging against the main cluster gear set. The main shaft was so worn that the pressed on main bearing slid on and off with little effort. Once we notified our customer of our findings, he told us he had been charged for an overhaul on it. | Also, once the transmission was removed, we found the fiberglass floor was cracked in two separate areas from the "specialty' shop not supporting the convertible shell properly. They obviously thought the cracks would never be found. | | After many hours of reinforcing the floor from the inside, we went to the underside and repaired the cracks. It was important to the owner that it look like it was not repaired since this is a concours quality car. I cannot tell that the floor not only was cracked but that it has been repaired. | | We had to acquire a replacement 1967 only hood. The prior shop had done work to the original hood but the holes that had been drilled in it for a hood scoop were coming back through. This hood had a lot of issues with the edges and the top part looked as though it had been dragged around a bit. We had to put the hood on and take it off many times to get the lines fitted perfectly to the body. | |
