Appearances can be deceiving. What appears to be a cute little roadster is revealed to be otherwise.

The front end view.

Under the hood is a 327 Corvette V8 with a Muncie 4-speed transmission.

Loaded up and ready for it's long trip back to our shop. Apparently, the conversion to Chevy power was never completed, so we need to get it running and driving.

It should be a really fun car once we get it sorted out.
The venerable Chevrolet engine. You never know where one might pop up!
Simplistic dash with a more modern wheel and gauges
The Ford 9" rear is held in by some very different means. 1/4" steel plate is a little overdone
What amounts to a large suspension  U- Bolt  is holding in the transmission with no isolator. We will make a tubular transmission crossmember and a rubber mount. This will set it up in a more appropriate manner.
Now that the tubular transmission crossmember has been made, we will install it.
The finishing touches of the crossmember are being tended to
Before we un everything, we welded a temporary crossmember in to keep the frame from spreading or distorting
The crossmember is installed and also acts as a structural member to help keep the wood floored chassis together.
We also had to rebuild and move the battery box since we removed what was left of the original crossmember
Battery box has been fitted to the frame and painted
We are now fabricating a support for the frame. The frame has been cut many times and with the combination of wood floors and it being a convertible, the only thing that will hold this car together is the frame. This will help strengthen the chassis a lot.
The new crossmember is welded into place to help keep what little rigidity the frame has in place. The driveshaft received fresh u-joints and was installed.
A Hurst Competition Plus shifter specifically meant for a 1955 Chevrolet with a bench seat was ordered up. It fits our application perfectly

The brake master cylinder is in bad shape. We will clean it up, rebuild it and get it back into working order.
The soon to be wood floor. We will have to cut it to fit.
The floor cuts begin. Once finished, we added a hinged access panel to the battery posts in case of battery failure.
The floor is installed and carpeted. The floor shifter is now in behind your right leg. We will have to modify the shifter to correct this problem.
We have modified the shifter so now it can be shifter to the side of your leg. We also moved the brake and clutch pedals to be a little more ergonomic.
Now we will address the frame issue by the steering box. As you can see, the frame is being allowed to flex since it is not even connected at the bottom. The steering box puts additional pressure on the frame also.
We fabricated a plate and have stiffened the frame considerably.
This plate will go on the bottom of the frame to control flex.
The roadster top and frame are now being assembled
Another view of the top assembly going together.
After making the rear window, the top is now getting fitted to the frame.
