1972 Pontiac Firebird Formula 455HO |
|
|
|
This car was originally purchased by Melvin to add to his collection. A client came into the shop one day and had to have it... Now that we've done several cars for him, he has run out of garage space. This rare bird is for sale, contact us for details. UPDATE: JUNE 19, 2006 THE BIRD HAS BEEN SOLD!
 | A documented, original Anaconda Gold, 33 option Formula 455 HO is almost impossible to find. '72 was a UAW strike year, with ultra-low production numbers.
This car is one of seven produced that year with both a 455HO mill and A/C; but with the rare rear console option, it's most likely one-of-a-kind. Never mind the thirty other options on the window sticker...
| | The engine build alone was worthy of three seperate articles in High Performance Pontiac magazine, under the title "Running and Racing Reliably". You can read the build history here, here and here.
| | Notice how impressive the track is. Those are custom made Pontiac Rallye II 15x8 wheels from Wheel Vintiques. These keep the stock look but give the chassis a nicer stance while filling the wheelwells properly.
| | Power windows, locks, tilt column, a/c, functional Ram Air, every molding option, bumper guards, rear spoiler, deluxe interior, 14" honeycomb wheel option (very unusual), full gauge package with tachometer, formula wheel, Y99 handling package (very similar to the Trans-Am suspension), power disc brakes, power steering, HD cooling and battery are just some of the long list of optional equipment. | | Subtle mods include hidden electric race-grade fuel pump, hidden electric vacuum assist (mmm...beefy cam), and a killer stereo system in the map pocket with MP3 playback and an Infinity adjustable subwoofer mounted in the package tray.
| | The 2002 Sunset Orange Metallic (SOM) paint job really makes this car pop. With second-generation F-bodies just hitting their stride in the collectors' market, this super-rare Formula clearly has great potential as an investment car. |
